ELPH Scholars Present at the National Leadership Summit on Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health
ELPH would like to congratulate Claudia Ortiz, DDS, MPH and Hassan Danesi, MD on their presentations at the National Leadership Summit on Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities held Jan. 9-11 in Washington, DC.
Ortiz,
an ORISE Fellow, presented a session entitled "Using Culturally
Appropriate Community Health Education Interventions".
She joined the Early Health Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Team at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) in 2004. In this position she has developed materials and programs to help educate minorities and expand a public health initiative within hard-to-reach populations by producing educational materials in Spanish, disseminating critical information and creating partnerships at both state and national level. Danesi's
presentation was "Community Health Mobilization, Sensitization,
and Education among African Refugees and Immigrants in the United
States: The Case of Metro-Atlanta, Georgia".
As the HIV prevention director for Prevention Effectiveness Consortium on Health and Education, a community based organization, Hassan works with local agencies to effectively adapt and tailor HIV evidence-based interventions to be culturally appropriate and sensitive to the needs of the culturally diverse African immigrant communities of DeKalb County, GA.
